We are happy to say we now stock a brilliant brand for children from Australia.
Jack and Jill Kids is the family run company from Melbourne behind the idea to make toothpaste which is 100% safe for children. It containing no allergens and is perfectly safe to swallow.
Produced in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, the toothpaste contains organic Calendula with natural healing and anti-inflammatory properties good for young teeth and gums.
The best thing about it is that it’s Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) free. There has been a lot of bad press given to SLS in toothpaste – it’s a harsh chemical used to create “foaming” (the main ingredient used in shampoo!) and it damages the oral tissue which leads to canker sores and many other nasty things…I’ve checked our son’s toothpastes and they all contain it, so I’ll be happy to swap over to one of these immediately. In the same way we don't want to use bath products for babies containing Parabens, young children should use SLS free toothpaste.
It might seem odd to use a non-fluoride toothpaste, as it goes against everything we've been taught about oral hygiene, but studies have shown it can actually be harmful to children under the age of 6 as they usually swallow more toothpaste than necessary when brushing. They can develop enamel fluorosis if they ingest more than they need and if the child is under the age of 2 fluoride toothpaste should not be used to help brush the teeth.
Of course, we wouldn’t sell it if it didn’t also look good. There are lots of “organic” brands which are just too “natural” for us, but this toothpaste is well designed, and looks better than any mainstream kids toothpaste on the market.
It contains no fluoride, no SLS, no preservatives, no added colours - it's vegan, it's kosher, the natural flavours are certified organic and food grade.
The toothbrushes are also great, being compostable, and they only take 90 days to break down in a commercial compost. You can be sure this toothbrush will not be in landfill for millions of years to come.
Choose from banana, raspberry, blueberry, strawberry or blackcurrant toothpastes, and hippo or bunny toothbrushes.
Packaged nicely, making a toothpaste and toothbrush set even suitable to give as a gift - one a parent will appreciate a lot more than a chocolate egg this Easter!
